Deleting your On the Nose account

On the Nose is a drinks companion published by Hartwig Design Studio. You can delete your account and everything stored with it at any time.
How to delete your account
From inside the app:
- Open On the Nose.
- On the Home tab, tap the gear icon in the top right to open Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom, to Account.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm twice. The app asks a second time on purpose; there is no way back from this.
The account and its data are deleted straight away. You do not need to contact us, and there is no waiting period.
Note: “Reset everything”, further up the same screen under Your data, is a different thing. It clears this device and signs you out, but keeps your account. Use Delete account if you want the account gone.
If you no longer have the app installed, or cannot sign in, email [email protected] from the address on the account and we will delete it for you.
What is deleted
Everything below is removed from our servers immediately and permanently:
- Your account and sign-in: your email address, and any Google or Apple sign-in connection.
- Your name, if you gave one.
- Your journal: every drink you logged, with its ratings, flavor notes, personal notes, the places you had it and the dates.
- Your palate: the taste profile built from those drinks, and every historical snapshot of it.
- Your scans: the history of bottles and menus you photographed.
- Your chats: conversations with the app, and any feedback you left on them.
- Your lists: want-to-try, follow-ups, and the predictions the app made for you.
- Your quiz answers and any spirits you asked us to avoid.
- Your usage counts and subscription record, if you have one.
Deleting the account also clears all On the Nose data held on the device itself, so nothing is left behind locally to be uploaded again.
Photos never reach our servers at all. A photo attached to a journal entry stays in your phone’s own storage and is never uploaded. A photo taken to scan a bottle or menu is sent once, read, and discarded without being stored.
What is kept
Anonymous usage events. We keep a record of anonymous app events, things like “a drink was logged” or “a scan was run”, with no drink names, no notes and no message content. When you delete your account, the link between those events and you is permanently removed. What remains cannot be traced back to you or to your email address.
These are kept so we can understand how the app is used in aggregate.
Backups. On the Nose does not currently keep database backups, so deleted data is not held in any backup copy. If that changes, this page will be updated first.
What we never collect
For completeness: On the Nose does not collect your precise location, your contacts, or your payment details.
Roughly where you are, only to find the bar. When you record where you had a drink, the app can use your approximate location to put nearby places at the top of the list. It is rounded to about a kilometer on your phone before it is sent, used only for that one search, and never saved or attached to the drink. Decline it and the app works the same, matching places by name.
